The largest VSAT Broadband Operator in Africa, including South Africa

Comsys, a renowned VSAT market analyst based in the United Kingdom endorsed AFSAT Communications Limited as the largest satellite broadband service provider in Africa with 18.8% market share.

 The 10th edition of the Comsys report 2007 covers over 300 different service providers and almost 30 different product platforms from all the major vendors. In addition, it covers how the market has performed every two years as well as providing service forecasts for the next three years.

Afsat has demonstrated strong growth plans with the right products and services in a market characterised by some very unique challenges and operational difficulties. The key attributes that makes AFSAT, through its iWay Africa brand, the market leader are the following distinctive capabilities;

  • Commitment to Africa: Four fully redundant NOCS serving Africa, two in Germany and two in USA. All four NOCs are remotely managed by a Network Operations management team in Kenya.
  • Technology on Hughes Platform: iWay Africa offers Broadband for Business quality connectivity. It is the only managed shared service in Africa that offers guaranteed speeds to the customer. Our focus is on the business user and we provide minimum expected download speeds of 100Kbit/s. The iWay Africa service is fast and reliable based on network sizing and traffic prioritisation to provide consistent high speed broadband.
  • Innovation: AFSAT was the first African company to launch a continent wide broadband solution and the first company in the world to launch DVB-S2 standard on the Hughes Network platform. iWay Africa deploys the most effective compression technologies using ARTERRA for maximum bandwidth efficiency and improved customer experience.
  • Network of Subsidiary and Distributors providing support in 26 African countries.

Afsat Communications Limited intends to extend it market leadership from 18.8% to 25% by finalising plans of commissioning a hub in Spain by the end of May 2008. This will increase the needed bandwidth capacity for the East Africa region. Consequently, Afsat will have DVB-S2 technology running on all NOCs and hence the capability to provide 50% more speeds to customers.
